I was excited to be a part of RHYTHM & SOUL: A Celebrity Chef Tasting Event at downtown's chic eatery, The Loft at Tribeca Grill-Drew Nieporent's and Rober De Niro's legendary restaurant. This event was hosted by my fellow "Chopped" Judge Aarn Sanchez and his wife If Snchez Mora who is an accomplished musician herself.

The evening consisted of tastings, cocktails, music, and prizes. All proceeds benefitted Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a non-profit music and mentoring program that empowers girls and women through music education, volunteerism, and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

I arrived to find Amanda and Aarn already there. After putting in a few minutes of "work", Aarn asked both Amanda and me to follow him and we ended up at the bar at Terroir where we had a round of amazing pumpkin ale. Ready and in the mood to start a wonderful evening, we returned to the loft and finished our set up.

I adorned my table with a gorgeous rich embroidered spread and some bangles and got ready to meet, greet and feed the people. My fare for the evening was quinoa coconut croquette, cranberry panch puran chutney, and cornucopia salad. We were all assigned one "Sous Chef", a young lady who is a part of the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. My helper and Sous Chef was Camrin Sheil, a dynamic young lady who impressed me with her poise, intelligence, and ability to be a very quick study.

"Rhythm and Soul" was an amazing experience! As I stood surrounded by these impressive young ladies, I realized that in about 7 years my daughter will be ready to join Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. Given her love of music, I can close my eyes and just imagine her in this creative environment, her confidence building with each new experience.
